Wolfowitz Escapes Mortar Attack
Iraqi resistance louse up shot at peace
Iraqi guerillas, whose rockets narrowly missed Donald Rumsfeld's plane September 7, breached the vast security zone insulating Baghdad's occupiers and rocketed the ninth floor, killing one American and injuring or maiming approximately 15 other people. Wolfowitz, ensconced on the twelfth floor and a man comfortable with others dying for his cause, was sheparded past the blood of the dead and dying to blame "criminals out there staging hit and run attacks."
Wolfowitz's death would have been an enormous PR boost for Iraqi fighters resisting America's illegal occupation and a slap in the face of U.S. propaganda proclaiming normality despite attacks by "Islamic extremists" or "terrorists".
The Habbaniya road convoy deaths yesterday of civilian American contract collaborators fired on by Iraqi and U.S. forces; the downing of a Blackhawk helicopter near Tikrit shortly after Wolfowitz had departed on one; the Khaldiyah roadside bombing and wounding of several U.S. soldiers; Friday's assassination of Amarah's coalition-backed police chief Brigadier Hamid Hadi Hassan al-Abe; the death of a U.S. soldier in Mosul; the deaths of two U.S. troops in a Samara mortar attack (thirteen divisional colleagues were wounded Thursday), and the pull-out to Jordan of Bulgarian Foreign Ministry staff give the lie to statements by Baghdad-based Brigadier General Martin Dempsey, commander of the 1st Armored Division who on the reopening of the 14th of July Bridge said, "It's steps like this, in the aggregate, that will demonstrate that safety and security have been achieved."
U.S. Attention Deficit Disorder ensures the twenty or so daily attacks on U.S. forces remain one-day wonders and the subjugation of Iraqi civilians continues. The Washington Post reports:
"A new opinion poll of 1,620 Iraqis aged 18 and older, meanwhile, released by the Iraq Center for Research and Strategic Studies, found that 60 percent oppose or strongly oppose the presence of U.S. and allied forces in Iraq.Paul Wolfowitz's death or injury in Baghdad at the hands of Iraqi guerillas would have changed Iraqi perceptions, shattered the delusions of a comatose U.S. populace, and saved thousands of lives. I can't but help feel it's a great pity they missed.
"According to the poll, based on interviews conducted between Sept. 28 and Oct. 10 in Baghdad and six other major Iraqi cities, the percentage of respondents who view coalition forces as occupiers, not liberators, has increased from 46 percent to 67 percent over the past six months."
Key politician outrages US
A top Lebanese politician enraged the American Embassy in Beirut yesterday by saying that he hoped the next attack on Paul Wolfowitz, the No. 2 official in the Defense Department, would prove fatal. Druze leader Walid Jumblatt described the deputy defense secretary as a "virus" who needed to be destroyed, a day after the American emerged unscathed from a guerrilla rocket attack on the fortified Baghdad hotel where he was staying.
The US Embassy described Jumblatt's remarks as "outrageous."
The Druze chief and head of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party said in a statement he hoped Wolfowitz, who he criticized as an architect of the US-led war on Iraq and a friend of Israel, would not survive any future attack. The US Embassy in Beirut issued a statement condemning the remarks as "outrageous and completely unacceptable" and urged the Lebanese government to do the same. "Such statements not only praise acts of terrorism but serve to incite future attacks on US government officials," the embassy said.

It's okay for Arik to act the rabid SS officer let loose in a Jewish concentration camp, but it's 'outrageous' for a politician to articulate the view of millions? American politicans have trouble enough speaking their minds; being honest, distinguishing fact from fantasy and dealing with reality. Isn't it about time they shut the fuck up?
Paul Wolfowitz: Goof
That's the only word that comes to mind when I think of Wolfie. You have to read this (if you can). It's one of the funniest, most clever pieces of writing I've read in a couple of years on the blogs. Brian has been cooking for weeks now, but I reckon his head just exploded. He is an evil genius. Don your bathing costume and head over to bmoeasy now.
Goof.
The Left likes to paint him as some sort of perverted evil genius.
Personally I think he's just a goof.
He ends up in a hotel in downtown Bagdhad that gets hit by some missiles...
