Napier was built in 1838 as a result of a dispute about the location of the church in neighbouring Bredasdorp. The guys that lost the dispute left Bredasdorp in anger and founded Napier.
Note: The beauty of Napier and its white agapanthus aside, the church in neighbouring Bredasdorp, seemingly dwarfing Caledon's grain silos, resembles a stonemason's space shuttle about to launch. It's probably looked that way since its building 150-plus years ago.
